How does the Seed contain the tree?
Do you really mean to tell me,
that the tiny acorn has in it,
the entire passion of the proud oak,
to display itself as a stately tower of wood?
I wish to understand, if only I could.
Look how it spreads its branches!
As the breeze incites them to dances.
They are like the upraised arms
of triumphant athletes,
celebrating their victory
over the Spirit of Gravity.
Do not tell me: "The oaks feel nought, they are sleepy Matter".
Because on certain magical mornings I have heard their chatter,
and how they contentedly moan with pleasure
each time they touch a cool breeze,
as they bathe in warm sunlight.
This bliss their divinely given right.
That Gravity Spirit, omnipresent ghost,
over this oak it cannot boast!
He maliciously desired,
to push this tree back into the dirt,
back even into the nothing of the primal goo!
And beware, he wants to do this to you!
The oak contested him, and the oak won,
it sought great heights, even the sun!
Now it stands arrayed with solar light,
adorned with gold as a king of might.
But the Heavy Spirit waits with bated breath!
not even the glorious can escape death.
But the Oak does not have any fears,
for each moment's passing it has no tears.
Because it has already planted deeply its seed:
And it will carry on the oak's will and creed:
To challenge the Spirit of Gravity's rule over Earth,
by growing from mere dirt and yet enjoy celestial Mirth.
The Weighty Ghost will indeed take the oak when it falls,
only to find in its place a dozen more, a hundred more!
Thus that Spirit is frustrated evermore for oaks die,
yet Oak remains in immortal defiance
of Gravity’s law that things born in dirt cannot heaven enjoy.
In this, they offer us mere men guidance.
